Your Wedding Day Details
Wedding day details have quickly become some of my favorite things. I love this time of day where you’re getting ready with your favorite peeps, and I can head out to a secluded spot. This is my warm up time; it allows me to stretch my creative muscles and showcase your carefully curated details with the love they deserve.
All the wedding day details
It’s my job to make sure all the details are captured, both during the day AND as individual elements for your wedding albums. Many moments create special details, such as Aunt Susie helping the ring bearer tie his shoe, the mother of the bride lacing the back of the wedding dress, or Grandpa Jack buttoning the special cufflinks the bride bought for her husband to be. However, the details I’m referring to are a little more tangible; these keepsakes also need to be honored in your overall wedding day. I highly recommend collecting all of these items and placing them together the day before your wedding. Put someone super reliable in charge of this box, so nothing gets forgotten.
THE DETAILS BOX:
- THE RINGS (ALL THREE)
- VEIL / HAIR PIECE
- SHOES (BOTH PARTNERS)
- JEWELRY
- PERFUME
- INVITATION SUITE
- BORROWED & BLUE
- TIE/BOWTIE
- CUFFLINKS
- HANDKERCHIEF
OTHER IMPORTANT WEDDING DAY DETAILS:
While the list above is all I need to shoot beautiful details there are other things you’d be wise to set aside the morning of the wedding day. These include the wedding dress (obviously), the grooms attire, bridesmaids / groomsmen / best people’s attire, flower girl / ring bearer outfits, bouquets / boutonnieres, any heirloom items you might be including in your wedding day. If you’re writing your own vows, you may want to include your vow books or snag some pretty paper to write them on for the photos. You’re welcome to put these in an envelope so no one reads them ahead of time, if you’re keeping them secret.
Extra Elements & My Detail Kit
A fun way to really bring some extra oompf to your details is adding in some extra elements. If your wedding is ultra modern with beautiful geometric centerpiece details, consider setting one aside with your details for me to use. Those pretty geometric sculptures make a great place to hang earrings, necklaces, or balance a heel on. It’s a great way to tie your details back into the rest of your wedding day decor.
Even if you cannot think of a single extra thing to include, have no fear. My latest obsession is collecting bits and pieces for my detail kit. Currently housed in a vintage picnic basket, I have all kinds of goodies. An assortment of ribbons, vintage goodies and a sliver platter give me plenty of options to help enhance your detail photos.
Selecting Backgrounds
Some of my favorite detail shots are from Jazmin and Dominic’s Pioneer Square Elopement. Jazmin paid special attention to the pinterest pins she loved, and when she checked into the hotel, made sure to tell the front desk attendant that they were getting married the following day. This lead to the attendant upgrading their room where Jazmin found a spectacular marble table to arrange her detail items. While I never require a couple to set up their own detail shots, she sure made my day with the pretty layout! Should you choose a hotel for your wedding day prep, don’t be afraid to ask if they have anything special like this you can use.
If your getting ready location doesn’t have a really pretty table or floor, don’t fear. I’ve hand picked a few beautiful backgrounds that I bring with me on wedding days to help give your detail shots a cohesive look. I love my drops from Ink & Elm on Etsy, and am always adding to my collection. Be sure to let me know your wedding theme and colors ahead of time, so I can make sure I have the perfect drop on hand!
Using Detail Shots in your Album
Your wedding day album design may feel like a faraway dream, but planning those spreads starts before your wedding even happens. You’ll definitely want a spread featuring a ring shot, your invite suite, and the rest of your details all together, as well as at least one additional spread with these individual elements. The detail shots make beautiful opening spreads for telling the story of your wedding day. After all, you put time, love and effort into curating those perfect details. They should be highlighted in a place of honor for generations to come.
