What’s a Wedding Mood + How to create five popular moods
What’s a wedding mood? That feeling you get when you walk into a wedding… that’s the best way to describe a wedding “mood”. No matter what mood you’re hoping for at your wedding, many are easy to piece together elements for the perfect day. Below are five popular wedding moods and tips on how to create them!
The Classic Wedding Mood
When people describe the classic wedding mood, it really brings to mind the timeless elements of modern weddings. For instance, solid white dinnerware will never go out of style, unlike the 1980s shoulder “poof” we all dread seeing at weddings now. To create this mood, you’ll want to stick with the elegance of simplicity and more traditional elements for your wedding day. It’s best for those beautiful historic venues like Orting Manor and Thornewood Castle who boast their own character without going over the top.
Florals: Roses, Peonies, Baby’s Breath and Eucalyptus
Colors: Soft Colors, Creams and Blush
Attire: Sheath dresses, Tuxes, short heels and pearls
Hair & Makeup: Neutral makeup and soft updos
The Modern Mood
Much like the classic wedding mood, the modern wedding mood is about streamlining and minimalistic decor. Where they differ though is mainly in the colors. Modern wedding decor includes a lot of metallic and geometric designs that perfectly complement most urban venues. Pinterest has a lot of inspiration for this mood and its chic contemporary look is easily obtained during any season.
Florals: Tulips, Orchids, and Bright Red Roses
Colors: Black, White and Metallics
Attire: Black Bridesmaids Dresses, Tuxes, A-line gowns, Statement necklaces
Hair & Makeup: Bold lips, Sleek updos and Big eyelashes
The Rustic Mood
In the past three or four years, the rustic wedding mood has transitioned quite a bit from a basic burlap and lace to a more modern Magnolia Market feel. (If you’re not a Joanna Gaines fan, google The Silos Waco Texas to see what I mean). All sunflower bouquets have been upgraded to beautiful fresh cut florals that remind us of summers in Grandma’s flower garden. Farm tables replace the typical round reception table and there’s tones of blue, brown and grey mixed into the rest of the elements. It’s outdoorsy and natural with a little vintage charm rolled in. While it’s easy to create a rustic wedding mood at an outdoor farm or barn, this particular mood will work almost anywhere, including your own backyard.
Florals: Loads of greenery, Lambs ear, Lavender, Gardenia, and Dahlia
Colors: almost anything, neutrals and bright colored florals
Attire: Blush lace gowns, Suits/Slacks with suspenders, flowy bridesmaids dresses, simple jewelry, boots
Hair & Makeup: Neutral smoky eyes, Mauve lipstick and flowing curls
The Boho Mood
Boho has become extremely popular in the past two years, especially with the ease of DIY for this wedding mood. Colorful, mismatched and unconventional ideas all lend themselves to creating the boho wedding of your dreams. Think outside the box for this one and channel your inner desert vibe. Your best bet for striking inspiration is to flip through the pages of the Anthropology website or roam one of their stores. Quick ways to bring a bit of boho to your wedding is mix and match dinnerware, cement or similar pottery elements and plenty of pampas grass! This is a great wedding mood for venues with clean slates where you can have tons of decor brought in.
Florals: Pampas Grass, Big Bright Florals, Feather accents
Colors: Peach, goldenrod, pale green and other desert colors
Attire: Flowy lace gowns, flower crowns, sandals, casual pants
Hair & Makeup: Smoky eyes, peach blush and loose braids with florals
The Garden Wedding Mood
Last but not at all the least is the Garden Party wedding mood. This one has grown in popularity and lends a bit of charming whimsy to your big day. While it’s easiest to attain this mood at a greenhouse, your own backyard can serve as a perfect wedding venue too! Edison string lights bring instant garden vibes, while guests enjoy edible flowers in their snacks and drinks. Moss table accents and runners give your reception tables a lush feel, while the bare grass serves as a beautiful aisle runner.
Florals: Bright colors, Potted shrubs, Moss accents
Colors: Greenery, Pinks, Purples, and Teal
Attire: Tea length gowns, Single strand pearls, Suits
Hair & Makeup: Less is more for makeup, and half updo with floral bits mixed in.
