Vendor Highlight: Korrine C Makeup Artist & Esthetician

Networking has been a major factor in my business, and I met Korrine online through a local networking group. The funny part of this story is when she messaged me through IG, because there was a woman at her kid’s school who looked just like me. Low and behold, our kids DO go to the same school. We arranged to get coffee and clicked right away. She’s awesome on all levels and I’m truly thankful to have met her!

While it may seem strange when your photographers ask for vendor lists, it’s because we 1) want to network with them, 2) want to offer them photos (when given permission) and 3) want to make sure they’re recognized too! Unbeknownst to me, I’ve been able to work with Korrine in the past, but because I didn’t have a vendor list, I had no idea she was the HMUA! I love her work and look forward to working with her in the future. Read on to learn more about this amazing woman, and her passion for her business: Korrine C Makeup Artist & Esthetician!

Please tell me a bit more about you and your company:

I am an onsite bridal makeup artist.  I have a team that I work with so we can offer both makeup and hair services.  I am also a licensed Esthetician which really helps me when I am working with brides.  When I’m not working you will find me with my kids, reading or doing Zumba!!

How did you get started as a hair and makeup artist?

I got my start in makeup artistry in 2007 when I was working in commercial. I then found I had a passion for the skin and decided to get my esthetics license. Working in the spa industry has helped me become a better makeup artist in a number of ways. I know what my clients need to prep their skin. I really delved into the wedding industry in 2011 when I started my own business. I had to take a little break when I had my kids in 2013 and 2014 (yes they are Irish Twins) and hit the ground running in 2015 after my kids got a little older.

What do you enjoy most about being an HMUA and weddings in particular?

I love being a makeup artist and being able to make someone feel beautiful, but I definitely feel like I specialize in bridal.  With bridal I get to wear all my hats, I get to wear my organizer hat, my skin therapist hat, my makeup artist hat.  I get to work in a fast paced work environment, I get to problem solve and I get to be apart of someone’s special day.  Bridal makeup is a completely different beast and you have to be prepared for anything.

Do you have a favorite story from a wedding or working with a bride/couple?

I think my favorite story is one that involves the whole community. I did a wedding about 3 years ago and when I got to the getting ready location we found out that the bride had a medical emergency. Instead of cancelling the wedding they had everybody continue as if she were here.  When I was done with the bridesmaids makeup her mom told me to go home, that they might still have a wedding but it was undetermined at that time. Well that didn’t sit well with me and I stayed and helped set up just in case I would still be able to do her makeup a little later. At about 3:00 pm we got a call that she would probably be able to leave the hospital so the Videographer, photographer and I rushed to the hospital so I could do her makeup and they could get some images of her getting ready. All of her vendors really went above and beyond to make sure that she still got to experience her day. That will be one I never will forget.

What is one question you always ask during the consultation?

I always ask what the details of their wedding are and what they are envisioning.  I feel like if I can get an over all feel of what the wedding will look like I can help my brides determine their look for their day!

If you could give couples only one piece of advice for their wedding, what would it be?

Always have buffers I know that you want to get ready in the shortest amount of time possible but you also don’t want your wedding to feel rushed so trust your vendors when they go over your timeline with you.  Also don’t sweat the details your wedding day goes by so fast and you need to breathe and enjoy it.

A few final tips from Korrine:

When you are hiring a makeup artist and hairstylist really look at their portfolios; we are all different and specialize in different things. If you are wanting a natural look for your wedding book an artist that specializes in that look. I find that consumers think we can do it all and honestly that is not the case. Also book a makeup artist who has done weddings! Like I said before, they are a different beast and you want someone with experience. Also book makeup and hair 6 to 12 months in advance. We book fast just like other vendors in the wedding industry.
