Sarah & Cody | Snowy Franklin Falls Engagement, Snoqualmie
I’ve been known to shoot in all weather conditions: rain, snow, sleet, hail. However, when there are avalanche warnings and we’re hiking 7 miles in the snow; yeah, that’s even a no from me. Having to postpone Sarah and Cody’s engagement session was really hard for me, but I wasn’t ready to hike with an active avalanche warning, and in the end it all worked out much better! The trail was quieter than on a weekend, the weather was sunny and clear, and the rain held out until we got back to our cars. Sadly, Jake missed this one because he had to work, but I was joined on the adventure by my friend’s husband Todd, who graciously carried all my gear the entire time!
Sarah is one of the amazing clients who met my husband at the wedding show while I was in the hospital with Evan. While she is marrying her high school sweetheart, Cody, back in Illinois; she chose to do their engagement session here with me! It’s such an honor to be trusted with capturing their adventure.
These two lovebirds moved to Washington after high school; Sarah wanted to escape the small town life and Cody simply wanted to be with Sarah. They’re chasing their dreams together, graduating from nursing school for Sarah and welding for Cody, and their next dreams are coming true too. These two amazing people are pulling off some major goals in the next couple of years: getting married and buying a house!
If it wasn’t impressive enough to be planning a wedding on the other side of the country, our adventure began by learning the road to Franklin Falls closes every year in the winter. Reports stated this made the 3.5 mile hike closer to 7 miles total. I hate to say it, but the reports are WRONG. SO WRONG. According to both my and Sarah’s Apple watches… the hike was over 9 miles round trip. 9 miles, packing snacks, emergency gear (because bears), and my almost 6 month old; it was a long hike taking almost 5.5 hours to complete.
Of course the whole point of adventuring is the adventure and this was one for the books. This was a bunch of firsts for myself and my business between postponing the session (first time in 10 years I’ve postponed due to weather!), first time hiking 9+ miles with a baby on my back, first time hiking Franklin falls, first time hiking in the snow… Getting to spend the day with Sarah and Cody was a wonderful way to round out February. I’d do it again in a heartbeat (but probably not for another 2 weeks or so because I’m still sore. Haha!)
