Rainy PNW Engagement Session | Emily + Daniel

Mount Rainier is a common request for PNW engagement sessions. But living like the mountain is out on a daily basis is hit or miss. The majestic mountain is a fickle friend, and sometimes just plain refuses to work with us. Emily + Daniel’s rainy PNW engagement session was one of those times where Rainier had me questioning my planning abilities.

A Rainy PNW Engagement Session

The entire day was gorgeous. The sun was shining, kids played outside while I prepped gear and I counted down the hours until I needed to leave for Emily + Daniel’s engagement session. I was thrilled to finally be photographing at a location I’d longed for; The Tanwax Chapel scenic view.

Lo and behold… the clouds rolled in and opened up as we were getting in the car to leave. Keeping my fingers crossed, I headed out to Eatonville with the hopes it would still be nice out there. That was a big fat NOPE when we arrived in Tanwax and found the complete opposite. The mountain was covered, the grass was muddy and mucky, and it wasn’t just raining; it was hailing too.

A New Location

To say I was disappointed would have been an understatement. Emily was visiting from California and was planning to be in town for only a few days. I knew I had to come up with something that would give the same PNW engagement vibes, without traveling a long distance as the sun would be setting in a few short hours.

Thankfully we were close to Frontier Park in Graham, where I knew there were covered buildings (worst case scenario) and enough tree cover to make this day workable. Emily + Daniel agreed with my decision and we made the quick trip to our new spot.

A Sweet Surprise

I knew I would be able to make magic at Frontier park, but what I didn’t realize is they have the second most requested session view: cherry blossoms. This was a very welcomed sight among the rest of the dreary day! We didn’t have to fight Seattle traffic, make that drive or try to find parking either. This was the bright spot I needed on this rainy day… To Be Continued…
