Patricia & Shawn | Graham Backyard Wedding
There once was a tree. A little boy loved this tree very much, and after many years of climbing this tree, brought his beloved to the base to be married. This is the story of the Moody Friday the 13th Wedding…
For my birthday this year, I booked a wedding. I came home to a sweet email from a bride who was looking for a photographer for her Friday the 13th wedding. Her description sounded like the perfect wedding day. An intimate backyard wedding with their closest friends and family, at her groom’s childhood home. I was more than thrilled she’d reached out to me, but hesitated as her wedding would fall a whopping 7 days after my scheduled c-section. I explained to her exactly what would happen if I was unable to make it, and gave her the option to book me as long as she was comfortable with my backup plan. She still placed her confidence in me and booked right away.
Fast forward to September and Patricia’s wedding day arrived. Walking into the backyard of the Moody family was like being transported to a magic garden. Fairy lights strung through the trees beckoned the sun to set, while beautiful Celtic accents and fall colors graced the tables.
The ceremony was officiated by Sean’s mom, who looked as though she’d walked straight out of a JRR Tolkien novel. No detail was overlooked as she instructed them to jump the sword and broom, carried in by Sean’s brother and sister-in-law. They shared their vows, and during his, Sean told the story of the tree they stood under. I’ll be honest, I don’t remember the whole story, but it had something to do with his climbing that particular tree when he wasn’t supposed to be. I was busy trying not to cry as he told his bride this touching story.
Sometimes we get a second shot at love, and for Patricia and Shawn, the blending of their beloved families is something straight out of a story book.
