Northwest Trek Keeper Tour

Wedding couples… get ready to swoon. The Northwest Trek Keeper Tour is simply divine when it comes to having beautiful couples photos.

An Adventure to Remember

Long before I knew about the Northwest Trek Keeper Tour, I remember riding on the trams. My imagination would run wild and I’d pretend I was one of the animal keepers out to save a hurt animal. I wanted to be a veterinarian, and always had dreams of saving the day. I remember the tour guides talking about the Hellyer Center where the Hellyer’s had lived before Northwest Trek was a public place.

The Keeper Tour and the Hellyer Center

Being hired for Katie and Tom’s Northwest Trek wedding was a dream come true. I was excited beyond belief and may not have heard the whole thing when they said they were getting married at the Hellyer Center. If that wasn’t enough exciting news, they told me they’d be doing a Keeper Tour for their couples photos. But what is a Keeper Tour?

The Keeper Tour is your chance to go out in the free roaming area… literally where the buffalo (or bison) roam, for couples portraits. Yes, really.

Head into the Wild

When our time for the Keeper Tour arrived, this giant Jeep-ish vehicle arrived. It looked like it was straight out of Jurassic Park. (Remember what I mentioned about the Hellyer Center Wedding Venue? Yeah, my Jurassic Park daydreams just kept coming!) Both Katie and I are a bit on the short side, so we had to climb up into the rig, which was a bit of a feat in itself!

Extraordinary Couples Portraits

Once in the free roaming area, we found several beautiful areas to stop and take photos. At each location, our tour guides would exit the vehicle first, and check for any residents before hand. It was such an extraordinary experience that I would love to have a second (or third, or fourth) time!
