An Epic Album Design Fail + Our New Favorite Album
If you’ve been keeping up with me on social media, you might recall the time I shared about a major hiccup I encountered with one of my albums. Let me tell you about the rollercoaster ride that ensued!
So, picture this: an absolutely delightful couple, Alicia and Mark, were over the moon with their wedding photos. They adored so many shots that they had a whopping 250 images on their favorites list for their album. Sounds like a dream, right? Well, here comes the twist – I made a colossal goof in the initial design of their album. Yep, the blame falls squarely on my shoulders.
My Epic Oops Moment and How I Turned it Around
You see, in my eagerness to accommodate their desire to include as many memories as possible in their forever album, I didn’t provide them with a clear guideline. A rookie mistake, I know! It wasn’t until after I sent off the first design that I realized the error of my ways and hastily penned down a guideline to avoid such blunders in the future. Lesson learned!
Now, let’s talk about that original album design. Oh boy, was it crammed! I tried to squeeze every single photo from their favorites list into just 15 spreads, which was a whopping 5 spreads more than what was initially agreed upon. And let me tell you, the result was far from the beautiful album I had envisioned. It was more like… well, let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. In the spirit of full transparency, I’m actually going to show you the original album design.
Facing this dilemma, I had two options: stick to my guns and insist on keeping the album as is (contractually, I could only make a limited number of changes), or swallow my pride, admit my mistake, and embark on a mission to right the wrong. After much internal debate – and a fair bit of nail-biting – I opted for the latter.
With determination and a sprinkle of nervous energy, I set out to craft a brand new album design that would truly do justice to Alicia and Mark’s cherished memories. This time, the album jumped from a measly 15 spreads to a whopping 38 spreads – that’s a whopping 76 pages of pure magic!
I won’t lie; I was on tenterhooks waiting for their response. Would they be understanding of my blunder, or would they be less forgiving? Luckily, Alicia and Mark turned out to be the epitome of grace and understanding. They absolutely adored their new, expanded album without a moment’s hesitation. Talk about a sigh of relief!
The Grand Debut of the 76-Page Wedding Wonderland
When the album finally arrived on my doorstep, it was like Christmas morning. My little one, Evan, was the first to greet the UPS delivery, exclaiming about the weight of the package. And let me tell you, he wasn’t exaggerating – that album was a beast! As I carefully unwrapped it, my heart swelled with pride. It was not only the biggest album I’d ever created in terms of page count, but it was also physically impressive in its 12×12 dimensions.
As I held it in my hands, I couldn’t help but marvel at its sheer beauty. Sure, its size might be a tad overwhelming at first glance, but there’s no denying that it’s a timeless masterpiece that will be treasured for years to come.
Alicia + Mark’s final album design
