Mr. + Mrs. Wilks | An Intimate Summer Wedding at Brix on Main
Thereâs something special about witnessing a wedding where every detail feels like an extension of the coupleâs love story. Cody and Amberâs wedding at Brix on Main was exactly thatâa day brimming with personal touches, love, and a dash of creativity.
For us, this wedding hit close to home. Cody and Jake, my husband, go way back. They grew up tearing through Codyâs parentsâ backyard on dirtbikes, getting into the kind of trouble that only sticks with you if you’re lucky enough to keep friends for a lifetime. To make it even more of a family affair, Codyâs sister is married to Jakeâs cousin. So when Cody and Amber asked us to capture their special day, we knew it was going to be something unforgettable.
A Mid-Summer Wedding at Brix on Main
The day arrived on a sunny, 90-degree August afternoon. Summer was in full swing, and we were all secretly (or maybe not-so-secretly) grateful for the air conditioning at Brix on Main. This venue has the perfect blend of charm and elegance, making it an ideal spot for a wedding like Cody and Amberâsâintimate, personal, and laid-back.
Brix on Main is one of those venues with endless potential. You can go all out with elaborate dĂŠcor or keep it simple and sweet. Cody and Amber chose the latter, turning the space into a warm, welcoming atmosphere with hues of green and soft white. It was clear that this day was all about their connection, their family, and their close friends.
A Wedding Day with Personal Touches and DIY Magic
Amber is nothing short of a creative genius. We could tell the moment we walked in that she had poured her heart into the details. The bride was helping set up when we arrived, carefully placing her “what to expect” cards at each place setting, which she designed and hand-cut herself. Talk about dedication!
Their seating plan was equally unique, with three large farm tables serving as spots for both the ceremony and the reception. It was the perfect way to keep things cozy and intimate, making everyone feel like they were part of something special.
Amber also gave us a two-for-one with her wedding attire. For the first look and the ceremony, she wore an elegant beaded gown that shimmered in the summer sun. Later, she changed into a sleek, sophisticated number that was not only stunning but comfortable enough to sit and enjoy the reception. Oh, and letâs not forget the homemade bustle! Instead of the usual deal, Amber and her sister-in-law designed a custom solution using a gorgeous beaded pin. It was an unexpected touch that fit Amberâs creative spirit perfectly.
The Ceremony: Short, Sweet, and Full of Meaning
With all the setup done, it was time for the ceremony. Cody and Amberâs day was short and sweet in the best way possible. The two had already built a life together, so this was more about sealing the deal with their closest loved ones.
The most memorable moment? Just before the ceremony, guests started arriving a little early. We had to pull off a quick covert operation to hide Amber from sight. Picture this: the wedding party forming a human shield while we whisked her back inside the venue! It was chaotic, hilarious, and totally unforgettable.
Dinner and Dessert: BBQ + Cupcakes = Perfection
If you know us, you know weâre all about the food. And boy, did Cody and Amber know how to treat their guests! Dinner was catered by Branks BBQ, and the spread was mouth-wateringâpulled pork, chicken, and the all-time crowd favorite: Mac-n-Cheese. Thereâs something about comfort food that just makes a wedding feel even more like a family gathering, and this was no exception.
For dessert, they brought in treats from Wanna Cupcake. The cake and cupcakes were delicious, but the real kicker was the ice cream from The Scoop on Main. Nothing beats a cold scoop on a hot summer day, and it was the perfect way to cap off the meal.
Skipping Traditions for a One-of-a-Kind Reception
One of the things we loved most about this wedding was how Cody and Amber didnât feel the need to stick to tradition. They kept their day super casual and laid-back, focusing on the moments that mattered most to them. There was no big cake cutting, bouquet toss, or grand exit. Instead, it was all about enjoying good food, great company, and celebrating their love in the most genuine way possible.
As the sun started to set, we snuck the couple outside for a few golden hour portraits. Amberâs second dress was perfect for thisâshe looked stunning, and we got some of our favorite shots of the day as the light softened around them.
Capturing Their Love Story
Being a part of Cody and Amberâs wedding felt like watching a story unfold. Their day was a reflection of who they areâcreative, laid-back, and deeply in love. From the DIY dĂŠcor to the intimate ceremony and the family-style dinner, every detail spoke to the life theyâve built together.
Weâve captured so many weddings over the years, but thereâs something special about seeing friends and family tie the knot. Cody and Amberâs wedding was the perfect mix of personal and unique, and weâre so grateful to have been a part of it.
Congratulations, Cody and Amber! Hereâs to a lifetime of love, laughter, and many more adventures.
