Mansfield Backyard Wedding | Dawn + Josh
Between the piercings and tattoos, I look a little more urban hip hop than country. At one point though, I longed for wide open spaces (enter OLD Dixie Chicks song here) and what I didn’t know is that I’d get the joy of photographing a wedding there. I met Dawn in elementary school, and when she hired me to photograph her Mansfield Backyard Wedding, I had no idea I would get to literally run through a wheat field.
Weekend Road Trip
Jake and I packed up and headed out to Chelan the night before this Mansfield Backyard Wedding. Road trip weekends with my husband are one of my favorite things, and this proved no different. Even though masks were required every where we stopped (and we’d forgotten our matching ones!), we still managed to make a few stops here and there on the way out!
“I’m not that easy”
My favorite part about this wedding was the story of how they met. Dawn and Josh met at a friends wedding, where Dawn asked someone else if they could dance. They said no, pointed to Josh and said “but he can”. So Dawn asked Josh to dance. Towards the end of the night, she asked him for his phone number. His response? “I’m not that easy”.
However, when she went to leave for the night, he followed her out and offered his number. He continued on to offer the ability to stay in his camper for the weekend (instead of driving anywhere) and Dawn responded: “I’m not that easy”. They exchanged phone numbers, started dating the following week and the rest is history.
Hot Summer Nights
Halfway through the wedding, Dawn commented how hot her dress was. Wedding dresses tend to be super heavy and her’s did not prove otherwise. So she headed inside to slip into something a little less bulky. When she returned, I learned she had on the dress she’d worn as a bridesmaid in another friends wedding. Kudos go out to the friend for finding a bridesmaids dress that could be worn again and again!
A Mansfield Backyard Wedding
The best part about Eastern Washington is the grain silos, and this wedding didn’t disappoint! Backed by the couple’s own wheat field, their ceremony was flanked by beautiful blue skies and golden grounds. It wouldn’t be a farm wedding without some tractors and silos in the background of their first look either. In fact, just about everywhere I looked had a silo.
We ended the night with beautiful sunset portraits in their wheat field, and drove back to Chelan as the sun faded over the hills. To say this entire wedding was dreamy would be an understatement. I’m already planning to return to Mansfield area in the near future for more photos and maybe even picking up a pig of my own… you never know.
