King Street Station, A Unique Wedding Venue

Wedding venues are a dime a dozen in Seattle, but sometimes finding that unique location is as easy as stepping off a train. In this case, it’s all about stepping off that train into the marble lobby of King Street Station.

Vintage Architecture meets Modern Day Transit

I know. Your first thought is “Why would I want to get married in a train station?” If I had to name one thing that would sell you on eloping here, it would be the historic architecture. Gorgeous floor to ceiling grey and white marble makes this train station feel like a dream wedding venue. You won’t find any of those ugly, hard, black airport seats here. The first floor presents beautiful pew style seating, reminiscent of old train stations. High backs, and solid dark wood give the otherwise light and airy location a warm and welcoming feel. Gold trim on the over sized wooden doors give the first floor an elegant appeal that feels more luxury than “you’re getting married in a transit station.”

A Quiet, Secluded Ceremony

The most surprising thing about King Street Station is the second floor. I wouldn’t have thought this central hub would have any privacy to offer, but I was dead wrong. The curved balcony created a perfect alcove for an elopement or intimate wedding. There is just enough space for a small wedding party, and the ability to peek around columns for some creative shots. The entire time we were there, it was pretty quiet. Only a few people even approached the elopement and everyone was super kind.

Dozens of photo opportunities

I day dream about the photo opportunities we found inside and outside King Street Station. The place is full of beautiful backdrops, with the main features being marble walls and large wooden doors. An enclosed marble staircase caught my eye while I was there, and created that effect of elegance and seclusion. I’m pretty sure my all time favorite area was just outside the double doors, near the car turnaround. The second floor of the building gracefully follows the curve of the cobbled sidewalk, and made the perfect location for some spinning bridal shots.

Location, Location, Location

I know that the Pioneer Square area has gotten a bad reputation over the past few years, but it still holds some of the most unique spots. King Street Station grants access to all of these hidden places, including a section of Post Alley that isn’t accessible from anywhere else. If you’re brave enough to scout around the square, there are plenty of interesting spaces at your fingertips. Leaving King Street Station, take a left and hop over to second street. Vendor carts, small busy bars and plenty of old brick architecture give this area a vintage vibe that runs deep.

Hop a train from King Street Station

The other really cool aspect of King Street Station is the fact that it’s a train station. How cool would it be to elope then hop a train to wherever you feel like honeymooning? There is absolutely nothing that says you have to stay in the city after your ceremony. Elope at Sunrise, then hop a train to Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco for some delicious chowder bowls. (No, Seattle doesn’t do chowder like San Francisco does chowder). Or spend your day getting pampered in the city, then elope around dinner and head to Portland for Voodoo Doughnuts the next morning. (I promise you, they’re best first thing!). The options surrounding King Street Station are endless, whether you’re staying in the city or on a train bound for anywhere else.
