Jaz’s Senior Session
Venturing beyond my comfort zone always brings a thrill. For years, my focus has been on capturing the magic of weddings with a sprinkle of portraiture on the side. Yet, there’s something uniquely delightful when family members turn to me for photography favors. Their requests always come with a hint of reluctance, as if they don’t want to impose, but truth be told, I relish the opportunity to immortalize moments within our sprawling extended family.
When Jake and I married, our family portraits included about 35 people and that wasn’t even everyone. Several family members were unable to make it due to various obligations, because we got married in the middle of the week. So, when the chance arose to photograph Jaz’s Senior Session, I was brimming with excitement, especially since I had only briefly crossed paths with Jennifer, Jaz’s mother, before.
With time ticking away and yearbook photo deadlines looming, there wasn’t much room for elaborate planning. Jas hastily grabbed a handful of her favorite outfits, and we met up near the Glass Museum, a personal favorite location of mine for photoshoots due to its diverse array of backdrops.
A Windy Senior Session
Despite the biting chill in the air, the weather was more cooperative than the previous day. Sunlight danced upon azure skies, providing the perfect backdrop for our session. Yet, the wind had other plans, its icy fingers nipping at our skin mercilessly. But with determination in our hearts, we soldiered on.
Jaz was an absolute natural in front of the camera. The wind gave us some extra oomph by blowing in all different directions, giving us a run for our money. But we worked through the chill and chaos to finish the session quickly! I’m so excited for her beautiful portraits to make their way to the yearbook, and for Jaz to celebrate the end of her high school career.
