Introducing Mr. + Mrs. Watts

About last weekend… If you’ve hung around here for any length of time, you know we’re always encouraging couples to do their own thing and break the “rules” of wedding planning. After all, it’s YOUR wedding, not everyone else’s! Lauren + James took this encouragement to heart (although I’m 99% sure they had the idea on their own before we ever met) and curated their wedding around their favorite people, places and things!

Fluffy Butt Farm Wedding

Lauren’s parents moved onto the property that’s now known affectionately as Fluffy Butt Farm in Edgewood several years ago. If I’m remembering Lauren’s dad mentioned her siblings hosted their weddings at the property, so it seemed very natural that Lauren would do the same! They brought in a big white tent; a small dance floor and the venue’s natural beauty did the rest of the work.

A lot of times, people assume a backyard wedding means you won’t have a “cool” factor, but Lauren + James definitely had that. They hired The Perfect Pour to host a slushy bar complete with their two favorite flavors (I can’t remember the red one but the other was pina colada!), an assortment of candies and fruit to add in! It was the perfect option for the hot mid-day wedding!

A Unique Timeline

I’m not entirely sure how it happened, but has anyone noticed the shift to the 3:00 pm or 4:00 pm ceremony time? It seems to be the most popular time for ceremonies in the past couple of years, especially for those who’ve rented large scale venues. But with Lauren + James’ venue choice, they had the ultimate opportunity to break this so called “rule”! In fact, imagine my surprise and delight when we sat down to chat about her timeline… and she told me they’d be having an 11:30 AM ceremony! Sure, this means we all had to be up at the crack of dawn, but boy, it was worth it! We started the day at 8:30 am but we were all off to our own thing by dinner time.

Lauren and I started the day at the Silvercloud Inn, where I met up with her bridesmaid Megan in the elevator. (If that’s not the best “How I met your Photographer” story ever, I don’t know what is). The room was bustling with excitement, as everyone got their hair and makeup done. I set to work with the sweet and simple details Lauren collected up for her wedding day.

Meanwhile, Jake and James were hanging at the farm. Jake was stoked to see he had been included on the family’s message board (they noted his arrival) and got to work photographing the Groomsmen Shenanigans. From the photos, it looks like they had a lot of fun wandering the farm.

The unique timeline was quite wonderful as we were able to hide away from the heat of the day in the tent, with slushies and plenty of snacks. As we wrapped up the festivities, Lauren’s dad brought out a pinata that was carefully made by Paoula, one of the bridesmaids. It was a fun ending to a wonderful day!
