Fun + Fabulous Date Nights for your Wedding Preparation
“Let’s go babe. We need a date night!”
As your wedding approaches it’s easy to get caught up not only in the details of wedding preparation, but also in your ever expanding budget. My husband and I are all about having fun – isn’t that what life is all about? We also believe in the importance of date night!
It’s extremely important to continue to date your love – not just before the wedding, but during the planning stages, and well into the long years of your marriage. Date nights should have rules. Which rules? Well that’s up to you – but here are a few suggestions:
- Don’t discuss wedding planning (or the kids, or money trouble…). Basically this isn’t a couple’s therapy session, it’s a date. It’s fun, sexy, romantic time. Not “let’s discuss why I hate your Aunt Edna and can’t sit her next to my Uncle Bob at the wedding.” That’s not fun – necessary perhaps, but better left for another time.
- Take turns planning date nights. Spontaneity is really hard when you’re working and planning something as big as a wedding. Especially if there are kids in your home and you need to arrange for their care. But it helps to share the burden and trade back and forth when planning dates. Plus, many of us like a little surprise in life – it’s nice to just go out and enjoy an evening without being the one who made the calls, bought the tickets, packed the snacks, or arranged the child care.
- Mix it up – don’t get stuck in a rut by taking the easy way out and going to the same old bar, or same bowling alley, or same restaurant each time. Variety, as they say, is the spice of life.
With that in mind, here are a few of our favorite date night ideas. Some take a bit of planning, some can be done spur of the moment. These locations are local to us in Tacoma Washington – but these ideas can be used anywhere.
