Caroline + Paul | Flying Caballos Ranch Wedding in San Luis Obispo, CA

It’s hard to describe how much I love destination weddings, and even harder to describe photographing them with members of your “tribe”. When you find someone you just “click” with, you have to jump on the chance to meet, even if it means shooting a Flying Caballos Ranch Wedding together, over 1000 miles from home.

In August 2016, after studying as an intern for Mark Tioxon of LeahandMark.com, I was invited to meet the award winning wedding photographer in person. After early morning plane flights, we met for the first time outside the baggage claim at LAX before heading to grab a rental car and make the short jaunt north to San Luis Obispo. Neither of us had taken the time to consider LA traffic, so our “short jaunt” turned into a 6+ hour road trip, complete with In-N-Out Burger, a lot of photography talk and the realization that my air guitar really sucks.

We arrived at Flying Caballos Ranch and I was immediately blown away. The bright yellow farmhouse greeted us, hidden behind a warehouse area, and opened to a beautifully manicured backyard. This historic house was built in 1905 and sits quietly in the rolling hills of Edna Wine Country. The ceremony space was positioned to give beautiful views of the valley below, along with the rolling hills which created a backdrop to die for. The California countryside created a magical place for this destination wedding.

This fairy tale wedding told the story of Caroline and Paul, a couple of world travelers. With tables named for their favorite vacation locations, and a snack spread with cheeses and pomegranates that screamed love for the California crops, this Flying Caballos Ranch wedding boasted a glamorous yet laid back vibe. Everything from the designer dress to the incredible sparkler exit (and rumors of a pizza delivery that would happen after we’d left) was meticulously curated to create an incredible event.
