A DIY Dessert Bar created by Tacoma Wedding Photographers

Tacoma Wedding Photographers especially love dessert…

I was so excited to team up with an associate for this Do It Yourself Rock-N-Roll styled shoot, and we knew that the rock-n-roll style needed something seriously different as far as the cake. At first, the idea seems a bit shocking. WHAT KIND OF A WEDDING DOESN’T HAVE CAKE????? But after a rather insane turn of events that morning (aka: arriving at the bakery to find they’d sold out of cakes already, whoops!) and some seriously creative thinking, we ended up with a pretty awesome dessert bar that could easily be multiplied for larger weddings!

Here’s the fun part…. an associate and I styled this dessert bar using items we found at local thrift stores. The glass cake plate was a piece she already owned, and she picked up several different size records to use for “plates”. Wandering Dolce Si while my associate was out thrifting (because food is what I do best), I found these AMAZING GLUTEN FREE swan pastries. Whoever came up with this idea was pretty brilliant. Since a cake wasn’t even available, I chose two of the swans and a fruit and creme filled Paris Brest (for those of you who are gluten free, I feel for you, but rest assured you could totally eat these. Dolce Si has a whole bunch of delicious gluten free goodies, including the pastries I purchased. WIN!!) along with three of my new favorite cookie: the macaroon. Imagine my surprise when I bit into the third one (because let’s face it, I bought it to eat immediately) and found it was filled with delicious apricot jelly. Yum.

Once we arrived on the scene, we placed the Paris Brest and swans together on the largest record setting them on the cake plate. The macaroons joined the party, placed on a smaller record. For larger parties, consider a vintage tin lined with dozens of macaroons, and select several cake stands to line with swans. Adorn your display with lace, beautifully soft velvet and some pretty scattered flowers. Then sit back with confidence, knowing no one will miss the cake.
