Katie + Nick Engaged! | Des Moines Beach Park
February and March typically mark the start of our engagement season, but with most weddings planned for later this summer, we eagerly awaited our engagement session with Katie and Nick. We first met this delightful couple at one of the wedding shows, where amidst the flurry of faces, their warmth and friendliness stood out. After an engaging online consultation, I couldn’t wait for the weather to cooperate, and finally, on a beautiful Friday morning, the sun graced us with its presence. Despite the unexpected 80-degree heat, the radiant sunshine set the stage for the perfect engagement session.
Discovering Des Moines Beach Park
Choosing Des Moines Beach Park as our backdrop was a stroke of genius on Katie and Nick’s part. While I hadn’t been there before, their love for the location convinced me it was the ideal spot. The park offered a stunning variety of settings, from sandy shores to lush greenery, providing the perfect canvas for capturing their love story. With so many choices, we simply picked the direction that appeared to have fewer people, and headed up the walking trail. It proved to be the perfect option and by the time we returned to the beach, it was mostly abandoned giving us the opportunity to photograph with the mountains along the skyline uninterrupted!
Fun, Flirty, and Silly Moments
From the moment we started shooting, it was clear that Katie and Nick shared a special connection. Their playful banter and easy laughter made my job effortless, as they effortlessly interacted with each other. I couldn’t agree more with Katie when she said that the “drunk walk” photos on the almost deserted beach were her favorites—they captured the carefree spirit of their relationship perfectly. Their smiles and laughter show just how much they love and care for one another.

As we wrapped up their engagement session, I couldn’t help but feel excited about the journey ahead with Katie and Nick.
