Cannon Beach Engagement | M+J
Back in May, our family decided we needed to go visit a Pacific Coast Icon: Cannon Beach. I’m sure Jake and I had been there at some point growing up (not together obviously), but none of our kids had gotten the opportunity to visit. Our trip created the perfect opportunity to shoot a Cannon Beach Engagement too!
Destination Engagement Sessions
I have a love/hate relationship with destination sessions. I love getting to see new places and it’s always a boost to my creativity when I can shoot somewhere new. The downside is I can’t control the weather. If you’ve ever spent time in beach weather you know how fickle it can be.
The day we arrived in Seaside was gorgeous. Sunshine and just a bit of salty breeze met us at the door of our hotel. We wandered Seaside and had a little family fun. I was so excited for the engagement the following day. It looked like it would be a gorgeous weekend.
Misty Cannon Beach Engagement
Low and behold, I woke up the following morning to find that the sun was gone and the fog had rolled in. Cannon Beach was covered in a fine mist. The type of mist that soaks you from head to toe in a few minutes. While I did have to push away some disappointment, I was here to do what I do best: Embrace the Adventure.
We met M+J and headed out to the beach. I professionally covered my gear with a couple of gallon ziplock bags (ya’ll know you’re jealous) because I didn’t bring any rain gear. The beach was busy and after a few minutes I realized this wasn’t going to be my good spot. I asked M+J if they’d be interested in heading to another spot down the road.
A Gold Mine
We’d scoped out this spot earlier in the day, and it proved to be perfect. There were fewer people in this area of the beach, and instead of fences right along the sand, there were beautiful overgrown bushes. All of these things allowed me to work magic in the shortest amount of time possible.
All the photos ended up feeling like something out of a Nicolas Sparks romance novel. I’m so excited for M+J’s wedding this month and cannot wait to share their beautiful day with you.
