Brookstom Creek Summer Wedding | Kim + Eric

Sometimes it feels like every one of these posts starts as “you know those people who start as clients and end up as family”. Truthfully that’s how things work around here and this Brookstom Creek couple was no different! Kim and Eric started out as clients, quickly became friends and now they’re pretty much family. Not even kidding, we’ve had THREE amazing sessions (their engagement, a family mini session and a beach birthday session for Eric’s mama Sylvia!) in addition to their wedding day! Every time they call, I’m always excited to hear what they’d like to do next. Their summer wedding was an amazing day and I’m thrilled to share it with you today!

Kim and Eric hired me for their 2021 wedding early in 2020 and were my first engagement session after the big shutdown. The day of their engagement session, I was feeling a little down. Our whole industry was in chaos and bookings were thin. I’d been passed over for a wedding for a few various reasons… those same reasons turned out to be Kim + Eric’s WHY for hiring me! I fell in love immediately with these two and invited them to join me for a family mini session at the farm. Upon meeting Alice, I knew we’d be lifelong friends.

2021 seems to be the year of two dresses for my brides. Like Sonja, Kim originally found a different dress, but ended up needing a new one only a few months before the wedding! It was worth it though, because her second dress was AMAZING and really made an impact during all three of her first looks.

Three First Looks? What?

Kim had a wonderful idea for her summer wedding that really challenged me when it came to pulling it off! She wanted to do three separate first looks: one with her bridesmaids, one with her family and one with Eric. If you’ve been to Brookstom, you’d know how open the space is. There really isn’t a spot to hide from guests once you leave the bridal suite. But we found a way to make it happen, and snuck Kim around the corner of a barn so we could transition her family into position right after her bridesmaids.

The wait for their wedding seemed like forever (y’all know there was an entire pregnancy and birth in there), but finally the day came. Jake and I pulled up to the venue right on time and set to work getting all the awesome photos.
One thing you’ve probably heard me say (if you’re a client) is that every wedding ends up about 15-30 minutes late. Not Kim’s wedding though! She was so excited to marry Eric that she was ready almost 30 minutes ahead of schedule!

Guys, find you a Kim and marry that girl.

Little Alice stole the show as a mini maid/flower girl. You’d better believe that cutie most definitely embraced her flower girl role. She has a big personality for such a tiny little thing.

Its not a wedding without some excitement and excitement is what Eric and his groomsmen brought. A couple bags of fruit and samurai swords (from Amazon of course) gave us some real life fruit ninja action in the back forty. There’s never been a summer wedding activity like this one. Even Kim got in on the action, slicing a few fruit before heading back to the party in the tent!

Kim + Eric, Thank you for having us. We’re forever thankful for your friendship and the honor of photographing your beautiful summer wedding at Brookstom Creek. See you again soon friends! xoxo, Markie + Jake
