2020 Favorites: Cake + Desserts Inspiration
Let’s be honest, I do it for the cake
– Me, semi-sarcastically at 99% of weddings
Now’s the time for cake inspiration. If we’re all being honest, there’s never not a good time for cake. Bad day? Cake. Celebration? Cake. Second Tuesday in January? Cake. But what do you do when cake isn’t your dessert of choice?
Me? I love cake. Jake on the other hand, loathes cake with a passion. Don’t get me wrong, he’ll eat it, but he doesn’t like it. My Mil has been baking for Make a Wish Foundation since he was a kid, so he’s eaten cake on a regular basis.
At most wedding receptions (and some creative weddings like this one) the cake takes center stage. It’s a tradition for the couple to cut the cake together, symbolizing their first activity done as a couple. Historically, the bride would cut the cake alone to symbolize the loss of her virginity. That puts a weird twist on these gorgeous wedding cakes if you ask me. More information on the wedding traditions surrounding cakes can be found here.
More often, I’m seeing some pretty amazing desserts pop up too. Candy “bars”, dessert tables and even cupcakes to go.
